|
This week our PreK Robins have been working hard on learning The Hustle, and to show off how hard they've worked, we are going to boogie on down at our 70's disco party. They've listened to different 70's music, learned about the fashion of the time, made sparkly disco balls, and even discussed popular culture at the time.
We practiced the concept of estimation and used a game show format to practice and double check our answers. The students are practicing this concept in school and it is a great game to play in the car as well.
We were busy in the centers this week as well,:
-Matching Upper & lowercase letters
-Identifying beginning & ending sounds
-Matching words by word families (-at, -ot, -ig, -ug)
Next week we will be making our own alphabet books, using beautiful feathers to float to music, and painting to classical music. These activities should create a calm and quiet atmosphere to nurture a different side of their artistic creativity.
Our students love reading and stories during school. They are able to make text-to-self connections and are getting better at staying on topic. In addition to these comprehension discussions, we wanted to share an activity that we do in class during circle time that you can include while reading with your child. We ask our students to identify the sight words that they know on the page before we read the page. We also play a seek-and-find game by asking the students to find a word that starts (or ends) with a particular letter sound. You don't need to do this on every page, but the students love showing you all the things that they are learning in school.
We look forward to a great week ahead!!
