Students in the Pre-Kindergarten class have generally reached four years of
age. The Pre-K classroom is large and is divided into several different
areas containing specific Resource Centers. The largest area is devoted to
Circle Time and contains the Science, Cultural and Puzzle Centers. The
second largest area is set aside for Arts and Crafts and the Practical Life
Exercises. Next, is the Math Center, where Concrete Materials such as the
Golden Beads are used to teach the concept of quantities. Finally, the
Reading Area provides a quiet respite where students can work with the
Movable Alphabet and the Phonograms, matching words to pictures.

Special projects completed in the Pre-K class include the study of living
and non-living things, animal classifications, the skeletal system, the
seasons, customs and cultures and hibernation. A favorite project involves
each child cutting a picture from a magazine and composing a story, which is
dictated to the teacher for transcription and display on the classroom
bulletin board.
