South Orange Country Day School is an early learning center that uses a variety of teaching methods and techniques to meet the needs of each individual child.

 Our Montessori background promotes a love of learning that emphasizes self-discipline, confidence and independence through the use of self directed centers. Teachers create unique learning centers on a rotating basis to appeal to children’s senses and interests, while addressing our learning objectives. This ensures that each learning objective is explored and learned using a variety of tactics that will appeal to many different learning preferences and styles.

Our teachers invite children to participate in a particular center and also use cues for all children to rotate through the days center work. It is our expectation that the center work is so engaging that children will want to experience each center. If we observe that a child consistently does not show interest in a particular center experience, we start with a review of the learning objective for that center. From there we use the child’s preferences to create center activities that appeal to that child.
